Shari Harrington

Shari HarringtonshariR

Shari has worked at our Fairless Hills branch for less than a year but has over a year and a half of group exercise experience. She currently teaches Yoga on Tuesday nights, 7pm in the Multi Purpose Room. What is so special about Yoga? Says Shari: I love how moving your body has a calming effect on the brain and helps you feel connected to your soul. To me, yoga teaches you new lessons the more you practice (feeling grateful, observing your body & cultivating love for yourself, learning patience on & off of your mat). My yoga practice always helps me feel centered & grounded.

Q & A with Shari Harrington:

Favorite Musican:
My dad. He plays string instruments (violin, viola, cello, etc) and  taught me to play the violin as a child. When I am listening to the radio, I enjoy country, rock and almost anything that I can sing along with.

Favorite TV Show:Hell's Kitchen (or anything from Gordon Ramsay), Friends, New Girl

If you were sent to live on a space station for three months and only allowed to bring 3 personal items with you, what would they be?
My journal, my Kindle loaded with books, and my cat! Bringing my yoga mat would be pretty tempting, but I'd enjoy learning to embrace my new practice while living - and floating - in space.

I love crafting and scrapbooking, cooking, exploring new places either around my neighborhood or on our way to other destinations, spending time by the pool or on the beach, and I love reading books!

Why did you start teaching Group Ex?
I started teaching Group Exercise because I wanted to teach everyone I came into contact with all of the lessons that yoga has taught me. Yoga isn't just for adults either - I love seeing how children and families grow on and off of their mats. The sense of community and the expression of love gives you a new sense of self that I would love for all students to extend to everyone around them.

If money and time was no object, what would you be doing right now?
I would buy lots of land to build rescues for all animals and try to volunteer my time equally between maintaining their up keep and making sure all the animals were loved. Plus, I'd host yoga classes on the grounds and all proceeds would go straight back to the animals.

If you could learn any new skill what would it be?
Cooking professionally!

What is your favorite part of  our YMCA?
The people! Everyone is so friendly & loyal. I love consistently seeing the same faces in classes and watching everyone grow in their own way.

Any other fun facts? Do you have any other fun facts or information you would like our members to know about you -  I'm having my first baby in September & I love noticing how my yoga practice has not only changed, but also how it calms the baby even before he is here!
